Based in Chippenham, Solar Communications was recognised as industry leader in the telecoms sector. Its design, deployment and support of communications technology for more than 1,700 UK business customers meant that it was included in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 and the London Stock Exchange’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain.
Having been established in 1988, it went on to become one of the top UK communications companies until its sale to Wavenet Group in 2018.
Our relationship with the company first began in 2005 when we advised Mark Colquhoun on the sale of his company, Call Options UK.
Drumbeat Communications began trading immediately following the sale of Call Options. We advised it from the outset and in 2007 we advised on its merger with Solar, a transaction which saw the enlarged group come under Mark’s ownership.
From that point, we worked continuously with Mark and the business, up to and including advising on their sale to Wavenet - a cloud communications company backed by Beech Tree private equity.
While supporting Solar through various acquisitions during the growth of the business (Armstrong Communications in 2012, Denwa & RDC in 2016, and TWL & Fairford in 2017), our advice also included group reorganisations and governance.
At the same time, we advised on customer contracts, supplier contracts, and partnership deals as each new acquisition came on board.
